"And remember that you were a slave in Egypt." This command repeats itself 36 times throughout the Torah, often in reference to the respectful treatment of slaves. Instead of the Torah demanding that we treat our slaves properly because it's moral, God approaches it from the memory angle; why? The past is packed with potent power; it shapes not only who we once were but who we are to become.

When I first ran for President of SCW Student Council, many people asked me why I was running for president and what qualities I possessed that made me the best candidate for the position. I responded, with conviction, that after spending two years at Stern College, I was able to find my own voice, figure out who I want to be, and work at implementing the goals I have set for myself.
