On Sunday September 14, 2008, more than 20,000 New Yorkers joined together in the early morning for the annual 5k Susan G. Komen New York City Race for the Cure. Among the supporters were over 1,500 breast cancer survivors as well as their family members and loved ones.
Stern Woman Fall 2007 takes her bottles and just throws them into the garbage. Stern Woman Fall 2008 walks the extra few steps to make sure she puts them into the recycling bin. These may have been small steps for Stern Woman, but they were giant leaps for the university.
On Sunday, September 14, 2008, esteemed members of the Yeshiva University community gathered for the third annual medical ethics conference held by the student Medical Ethics Society. The conference, entitled "The Sanctity of Life: A Jewish Approach to End-of-Life Challenges," set out to address a broad range of controversial medical and ethical issues surrounding the decisions made at the end of life.
"Now I have to learn to eat with chopsticks" said Dr. Lea F. Santos, assistant professor of physics at Stern College for Women. Dr. Santos was referring to her upcoming October conference in Seoul, Korea, the third IUPAP [International Union of Pure and Applied Physics] International Conference on Women in Physics.
